2009 SUMMER SEASON

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet announces its 2009 Summer Dance Season. From July 17th-August 10th, dance will take center-stage in Aspen. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet will kick off the series with performances on July 17 & 18. ASFB’s annual gala “Dancing with the Aspen Stars” will take place July 22nd at the Hotel Jerome. The acclaimed Aspen favorite, Parsons Dance will appear July 24-25. July 31st and August 1st, ASFB will return with guest stars from American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet for “An Evening of Stars”. On August 3rd, don’t miss Juan Siddi Flamenco Theatre Company. Rounding out the series, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet will make their third appearance with the Aspen Music Festival and School, performing Twyla Tharp’s masterpiece Sweet Fields (complete with a live a cappella chorus) and Jorma Elo’s Red Sweet at the historic Benedict Music Tent.

All performances are held at Aspen District Theatre at 8:00 pm unless otherwise noted. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet returns to Aspen for two nights of performance featuring new works and old favorites. Fresh from a highly successful appearance at the American Dance Festival and their debut at the world-renowned Wolf Trap Festival, ASFB will premiere the humorous Sechs Tanzes by Jiri Kylian. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet continues to delight and inspire audiences with their fun and fearless appeal.

Parsons Dance

An Evening of Stars

July 31st and August 1st, 8pm

This stellar program features the finest ballet stars from around the world. The impressive line-up includes: Paloma Herrera from American Ballet Theatre; Megan Fairchild and Andrew Veyette from New York City Ballet and Lorena Feijoo from San Francisco Ballet. Special guest appearances by our own Aspen Santa Fe Ballet dancers complete this thrilling program of duets.

In their third year of collaborations, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Aspen Music Festival and School will present Twyla Tharp’s masterpiece, Sweet Fields and Jorma Elo’s Red Sweet live at the stunning Benedict Music Tent. Set to hauntingly beautiful Shaker hymns, Sweet Fields unites dancers and singers on stage and features a fully staged a cappella chorus while Jorma Elo’s passionate Red Sweet will feature the classical orchestral sounds of Vivaldi and Biber.
