The Texas Trailblazer Awards recipients were announced at a reception in their honor at Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas’ Design District.
Ebby Halliday Acers, Honorary Chair, joined luncheon co-chairs Molly Cooke Kipp and Lillie Young as they welcomed the committee and announced Candice De Long, the 15th woman to be accepted into the FBI (now retired) and author of Special Agent: My Life on the Front Lines as a Woman in the F.B.I, as the featured speaker for the Wednesday, September 23rd luncheon at the Frontier of Flight Museum at Love Field.
Paige Flink, Executive Director, The Family Place, announced these Texas Trailblazer Awards recipients. All awards will be presented at the luncheon.
Linda Pitts Custard is the recipient of the Texas Trailblazer Award, which recognizes a local woman who has achieved significant success despite the obstacles she has faced along the way. She is a woman who has accomplished a "first" and opened the doors of opportunity for other women. She has made significant contributions either in her community, business or profession. No matter what her accomplishments, however, she is a woman who has blazed a trail for others to follow.
Jason Witten, # 82 of the Dallas Cowboys, will receive The Family Place Man of Influence Award, which recognizes a North Texan who is leading by example to make domestic violence a “community issue” rather than a “women’s issue.” Through his lifestyle, he is setting a standard of compassion, support and commitment that promotes healthy relationships.
The Family Place Youth Service Award and Scholarship will be given to Katie Chrisman for being an outstanding leader in her high school community. She has participated in The Family Place Students Tackling Abusive Relationships Together (START) Program for a minimum of one year, acting as a mentor to educate her peers about healthy relationships in an effort to prevent teen dating violence and sexual assault.
The Family Place Advocacy Award recipient is Mary Kay, Inc. This award recognizes an organization that has played a vital role in furthering the mission of The Family Place to stop the suffering of women and children victims of family violence in North Texas. By providing generous financial and volunteer support and promoting awareness with employees, associates and peers, the Advocacy Award recipient is a strong voice speaking out for victims of family violence to improve our community’s response to their critical needs.
Tickets are open to the public, by reservation only and are $100 each for Dutch treat. Tables begin at $1,500 for a table of ten. For more information, contact Family Place Event Manager: Emily Santillan (214) 443-7717 or email at essantillan@familyplace.org

Event Audience and Goal:
The Texas Trailblazer Awards Luncheon is generally comprised of corporate sponsors, table hosts, philanthropists, media, and accomplished men and women in the North Texas community. The event will raise funds to support the comprehensive programs of The Family Place and ensure that life-saving services will be available to women victims and their innocent children for years to come.
Guest Speaker: Candice De Long has been called a real-life "Clarice Starling" and a female "Donnie Brasco." She was on the front lines of some of the F.B.I.'s most gripping and memorable cases, including being chosen as one of three agents to carry out the manhunt for the Unabomer in Lincoln, Montana. She tailed terrorists, went undercover as a gangster's moll, and posed as the madam for a call-girl ring. Now for the first time, she reveals the dangers and rewards of being a woman on the front lines of the world's most powerful law enforcement agency.
DeLong is also the subject of a riveting Lifetime Original Movie, Killer Instinct: From the Files of Can
dice DeLong, actress Jean Smart deftly portrayed DeLong.
DeLong frequently appears on television, commenting on violent crime and personal safety. Her appearances include Meet the Press, 48 Hours, Hardball with Chris Matthews, MSNBC Investigates, NBC, ABC and CBS Evening News, TODAY, Good Morning America, CBS Early Show, CNN, MSNBC, FOX News and Court TV.

co-chaired Palm Night 2008, benefiting The Family Place. The event was held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at The Palm. This year's chairmen opted to turn everything upside-down, making the party more sleek and chic than ever – with a Palm Springs-themed evening!
Palm Night is one of the most successful benefits in North Texas. The evening featured a luxurious, well-edited Silent Auction, an exceptional 15 item Live Auction, and The Palm’s divine steak and lobster dinner. This exclusive event raised more than $350,000. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Palm Night and the 30th anniversary of The Family Place, Palm Night honored the Dedman Family - Nancy, Rachael and Bob, Patty and Bobby, and presented the Angel Award to Leah and John Davis, and the Anniversary Angel Award to Tommy Guilds.
