What: The Juanita and Henry S. Miller, Jr. Founders Award was created in 1991 as a way for The Women’s Board to recognize individuals who have made exceptional volunteer and philanthropic contributions for the benefit of The Dallas Opera. The Miller family will present the award at The Juanita and Henry S. Miller, Jr. Founders Award Luncheon on February 3, 2009. This year, we are honoring Ruben Esquivel, an exceptional community leader who has served as past Chairman of the Opera.

Esquivel, 65, has been vice president of community and corporate relations since 1995 at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, one of the country's leading academic medical centers, patient-care providers and research institutions.
Esquivel is a director and past chairman of the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation and a member of the North Texas District Export Council appointed by the United States Secretary of Commerce. He also is on the board of directors of Comerica Bank-Texas.
Long active in community affairs, Esquivel serves as chairman of the State Fair of Texas and as a director of the Baylor Oral Health Foundation, Bio DFW, Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, Dallas County Community College District Foundation, The Thanks-Giving Foundation, YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas and as a trustee of Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Education and Research Foundation. He is a director or member of many other civic groups, including the Dallas Citizens Council, the Oak Cliff Lions Club and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas.

About the Women’s Board of The Dallas Opera: The 2008/09 Season marks the 50th anniversary of The Women's Board, a major support group of The Dallas Opera (TDO). Its membership is composed of approximately 800 Dallas area women who combine service with fund-raising activities to provide a significant base of support for The Dallas Opera.
The Women's Board has contributed more than $5 million to the organization, making it TDO’s largest single donor. In addition to sponsoring the Founder's Lecture Series designed to enhance the opera-going experience, The Women's Board hosts the Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show to benefit Dallas Opera programs. |
