About Rainbow Days: Rainbow Days is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide children living in high-risk situations with the skills and support they need to overcome adversity and stay drug free.
Vision: A drug free and promising future for every child
History: Rainbow Days, Inc. (RDI) was founded in 1982 by Chief Executive Officer, Cathey Brown, to address the unmet emotional, social and behavioral health needs of children living in high-risk situations. High-risk situations include: living in extreme poverty or being homeless, experiencing family violence, having a substance-abusing parent, having a parent involved with the criminal justice system, and/or awaiting placement for or in foster care. As a teacher and counselor, Cathey recognized that children in these situations were the least likely to possess the basic life-skills essential for success in school and life, and the least likely to have access to the support of positive adult role models. In response, she developed a model of educational support groups called “Curriculum-Based Support Groups” (CBSG®)and founded Rainbow Days to provide an organizational structure for developing, evaluating, and disseminating new programs based on the model.
Now, after 28 years of service, RDI has expanded services to include an array of prevention programs and has served more than 100,000 children in the Dallas community. In addition, through our Training Services Division, we have the opportunity to reach thousands more children across Texas and the nation by training other teachers, counselors and other helping professionals to use our programs with the kids they serve. To date, Rainbow Days has trained over 28,000 adults in how to implement one of RDI’s support groups or other accredited prevention
Rainbow Days is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and as a 501 c (3) receives funding from a variety of federal and state grants, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
