In the past, we have had the privilege of honoring Eddie Coker, Citigroup, & Yahoo!. In 2007, a Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Mrs. Betty Ford. In 2008, Rainbow Days will honor the Dallas, Grand Prairie and Richardson School Districts for their on-going commitment to “Raising Healthy Children.” History: Rainbow Days, Inc. (RDI) was founded in 1982 in Dallas, TX by current Executive Director, Cathey Brown. Cathey began the first support group for young children of alcoholics in the Dallas area. During the weekly support group sessions, the children discussed how to manage their feelings, cope with problems and make healthy choices. The demand for these groups grew rapidly. With the increased need, Rainbow Days began implementing support groups in other sites throughout the Dallas community. Now, 26 years later, RDI has expanded services to include an array of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) prevention programs and has served more than 70,000 children in the Dallas community alone. In addition, we have trained more than 22,000 professionals across Dallas, the state of Texas and the United States in implementing at least one of RDI’s support groups or other accredited prevention programs with children in their own communities. Rainbow Days is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and as a 501 c (3) receives funding from a variety of federal and state grants, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
