Yellow and Black Tie Gala to Raise Funds and Promote Opening of Richardson Regional Medical Center’s New Cancer Center Suzanne Bock chairs the November 1st event (October 16, 2008) – The Yellow and Black Tie Gala hosted by the Richardson Regional Medical Center Foundation is slated for Saturday, November 1, at the Westin Galleria Dallas. Hunter Sullivan – one of Dallas' most popular big band musicians – will be performing, and award-winning film critic Gary Cogill of WFAA-TV will be serving as this year's emcee. The gala will also feature a cocktail reception, seated dinner and live and silent auctions. Proceeds from the annual fundraising event will support medical technology, research and clinical programs at Richardson Regional Medical Center. The gala’s new theme this year highlights one of the hospital’s major initiatives. “We wanted yellow to be part of the theme this year to promote cancer awareness and the recent opening of the new Richardson Regional Cancer Center,” said gala chair Suzanne Bock of Dallas, a member of the Richardson Regional Foundation board and owner of Interphil LLC, a philanthropic and wealth management consulting firm, is passionate about this cause because she was caregiver to a close friend who passed away from leukemia two years ago. The new Cancer Center, an affiliate of UT Southwestern Medical Center, opened in October at the hospital’s Bush/Renner Campus to serve the North Texas area. The Cancer Center will bring advancements in cancer treatment by expanding medical, surgical and radiation oncology, clinical research, genetic counseling, patient education and support services – all in one convenient location. As part of the gala celebration, Judy Martin, chair of the Foundation’s capital campaign “Cancer Should Not Have the Last Word,” will be honored with a special award for her work in raising more than $4 million for the new Cancer Center. Plano residents Ed Kelly and Linda Armstrong Kelly, who also have played an instrumental role in the capital campaign, are serving as this year’s honorary gala chairs. The couple has devoted their volunteer efforts to help fight cancer and improve medical care available locally. Mr. Kelly is president of the Foundation Board of Directors. A former IBM executive, he currently serves as Director of Sales for PHNS, a Dallas based company that provides information technology and business office services to hospitals. Ms. Kelly, mother of seven-time Tour de France winner and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong, is an activist, author and motivational speaker. She currently serves on the Richardson Hospital Authority Board. Karl Chiao of Park Place Maserati and Robert Witte of Dallas law firm Strasburger & Price are serving as gala underwriting chairs. This year’s gala supporters include Gold Sponsors Ericsson and Fujitsu; Gold Media Partner Modern Luxury Dallas; and Silver Sponsors Bovis Lend Lease, Diversified Investment Advisors, HCFS, Inc., Leslie Wharton Interiors and Perkins+Will.
